Year End Report

While the first year of the global pandemic was fraught with the foundational changes to the way we make films, the local film industry has not only recovered, but is growing at a record pace. After months of cooperation at all levels of government, labour and industry, film production safely resumed in 2020 with a record breaking $55 million in direct spending in the Capital Region. 2021 proved to be another record-breaking year with the South Island Film Commission landing 40 shows, creating over 2000 jobs, resulting in a direct spend of almost $60 million.
